About me
Hi, I'm Ella. I'm a therapist based in Chicago.
I believe getting better happens when we make lasting emotional changes. If we can help you feel safe, loved, and accepted, and if you can approach even your least favorite part of yourself with compassion instead of fighting it, then the rest will follow.
My approach is candid and respectful, we will work with where you are today, instead of who you are supposed to be. Sessions with me tend to look like free flowing conversations. I believe that your mind knows what is important, and it will take us there if we let it.
My Background & Training
My full name is Ella Zhu, I'm a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW). I specialize in relational, psychoanalytic therapy, an approach that values understanding our relationship with ourselves and others, and identifying patterns within them.
I began my career as a child therapist. I received training in child-led play therapy from Juvenile Protective Association. I was later trained in adult psychoanalytic therapy at the Lakeview Center for Psychotherapy. My client base is a mixture of adults, children and their families.
Care for All
I believe in the importance of diversity. That is the diversity of race, gender, class, sexuality, neurotype, ability, and thought. Whoever you are, my job is to listen, and honor your perspective in life.
